Have you ever wondered why dogs are considered man's best friend?Well the answer lies in the hormone called oxytocin.. This is the hormone inside the human and dog brain that can make them bond with any member of the family. It's just what babies do with their mothers. Oxytocin is a hormone in the brain of a mother that stimulates and strengthens their attachment towards their babies. Babies, since they are humans also have oxytocin. The feeling between mother and baby is mutual. It is so true also for domesticated dogs. As you gaze into the eyes of your dogs, the hormone oxytocin strengthens the attachment between you and your dogs. The longer you look at them, there will be an increased level of this hormone that dog owners and dogs will release. You can stroke your dogs and oxytocin will be released
Japanese Scientists have made a successful study on this hormone that when both dog owners stare at their dogs, it actually leads to a bonding that is actually almost the same as a mother and her baby. This is why dog owners start to develop and experience the same feelings for their dogs and their family members. When staring at each other both human and dogs are releasing an extreme amount of oxytocin. This is the hormone that helps dog owners become closer to their dogs Female dogs are more receptive to high levels than males. It could be because of their sexual origin. Oxytocin is a love hormone. When owners gaze at their dogs, they are telling them how much they love them. The dogs will reciprocate this feeling with their own level of oxytocin. This could be at par with their owners.
Dogs do release oxytocin when they interact socially with humans or other animals. A research that was done in Arkansas showed that blood samples were extracted from a goat and dog. When the blood was mixed together, the dog's oxytocin spiked up 48 percent while the goat's oxytocin went up 210 percent. The researcher whose name is Paul Zak said said that the goat could have been in love with the dog. Domesticated dogs release these hormones when interacting with animals and humans.
